When it comes to Rome and its history, we focus mainly on the powerful men who built the city, the Republic, and later the empire. But what about the women who stood by these generals, lawmakers, and honest citizens? Who were the most powerful and influential women of Ancient Rome? Who were the wives, sisters, lovers who helped the Roman Empire take its shape?
Join us on an adventure to discover the mysterious lives of the Roman Matrons and Queens!
Your tour will begin in front of the Colosseum where our lovely coordinators will check you in and welcome you with your skip the line tickets, individual headphones and complimentary water bottle. As soon as your licensed professional guide will arrive, you'll be whisked through the line and step into the most important arena of the Ancient World, the Colosseum.
Before becoming the most entertaining spot for the citizens of Rome, that area was the private lake of Emperor Nero, one of the most cruel but also fascinating rulers of the Roman Empire. Once inside the Colosseum you'll learn all about Agrippina Minore, the mother of Nero and the puppeteer behind the son's political actions.
Having visited the Colosseum you'll continue towards the Palatine Hill, legendary birthplace of Rome, and home to the imperial palaces. Here you'll dive into the lives of the most important women of Rome, such as Livia the wife of Emperor Augustus, Ottavia, Giulia, but also the priestesses of the Goddess Vesta, and many more.
Your tour will end after a walk through the Roman Forum, the most significant place for Rome's daily life, economics, and more. As you'll walk through the ruins of what was the bursting centre of Roman life, you'll hear stories about Cleopatra, Poppea, as well as Faustina, wife of the Emperor Antonino Pio who loved her so much he built an entire temple to honour her beauty.
